Why Are People In This Niche

  • Guns have a series of defects that make them unpredictably dangerous, for that reason gun safety tools required

  • Firearms manufacturers operate in an unregulated environment that makes them irresponsible and insensitive to the need for more safety

  • Guns should contain certain features that would make them safer

  • More regulatory oversight is required to assure these safety features are implemented to protect us from these unethical manufacturers.

  • Conforming to state and federal regulations - it’s makes sure you have all your legal P’s and Q’s covered.

  • Building good safety habits - If you want to be a responsible gun owner, it’s important to start out with good habits.

  • Understanding grip and positioning - An often overlooked aspect of gun safety is the effective handling of the gun itself, especially when it comes to grip and positioning.

  • Learn to load and unload ammunition - One of the most important aspects of gun safety is knowing why you should treat every gun as if it were loaded.

  • Child Access Prevention Laws - While there is no federal legal requirement, 27 states and the District of Columbia have requirements that guns be locked up to prevent access to children, in some cases even if you don’t have children yourself.

  • Firearm Locking Device Laws - Even in cases where there are no children present in your home, many states require locking up your guns.

  • Protection from Burglars

  • Insurance Coverage Limitations and Required by Insurance Coverage

  • Protection from Lawyers - If your guns are stolen, it helps to be able to demonstrate that you took measures to safely and securely store them.

  • Protection from Fires - In most homes, everything would be lost if there was a significant fire. A fire rated gun safe provides some protection for your guns and other valuables from fire.

  • Tax Deduction / Rebate - A couple states offer a tax credit if you purchase a gun safe. In states like New Jersey and Massachusetts, gun safes are exempt from sales tax but you may have to remind them of this in big box stores.  A bill is being considered in Congress for a federal tax credit for a gun safe.

    @Nader,

Great research. Interesting idea to target the gun safety niche.

As an Amazon affiliate myself, I actually looked into how many gun related products Amazon sell.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_cn?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200277700

    No body armor, no firearms.
Just want to point that out as a reference.

    • Hi Tony, thanks for the comment.

I think you've mistaken this niche to be about selling guns and preparing for an attack :P.

Sort of, but if you look on Amazon and search "Gun safety", as mentioned in this post, then you'll actually find more than 96,000 results instead of the 86K mentioned in this post.

      http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gun+safety

There's lots to be sold in this niche.

      • Tony says:

        Hi Nader,

Thank you for pointing that out and clarifying.

I agree there are many "Gun safety" related products but many of them are books or low price items.

Don't get me wrong, your method works. I agree with your market analysis to see how large the market is.

On the other hand, being a small affiliate guy like me, what I care the most is the price of products I am going to promote.

This is why I am doing more product oriented keyword research these days rather than the top down approach that is presented here, which might work better for larger companies.

Nonetheless, great job identifying that niche 🙂

        • Hey Tony

So why wouldn't this work with keyword research though?

And if you don't mind me asking, how many sites do you have?

Sounds like you have multiple, if you could start over, would you start with one big one instead of multiple?

          • Tony says:

            Hi Nader,

Your approach works but it also needs to consider the market at the product level.

For example, it's a good idea to find out how many people are interested in Yoga and the market size potential, but we also need to know if there are high price Yoga products.

I do have a few sites but now I am just focusing on one. It's a large enough niche that I can go after different products.
So within those products, I will find more than $50 products and do keyword research around them.

If I could start over, for sure I would just do one big one with large enough niche to have different products.... which is kind of what I am doing now.

  2. Goob says:

Nice post, but Joe Mande is a comedian. Not really sure he's really one of the 5 most influential people in this niche.

  3. Joseph says:

    Hi Nader,
Great research work there. But do you think there will be some affiliate products related to it? If they exist their cost might be too low. Isn't it?
    Regards

  4. Sean says:

I think everyone might be missing the point. Gun Safety is a way in to the endless product stream that comes with gun ownership. For anyone who reads Backlinko, Brian Dean calls this a "Shoulder Niche."
You begin by focusing on articles and content related to gun safety, trigger locks, certifications, Congress and so forth. That's the break-in angle you need to get rankings->build fanbase->capture email addresses.
If someone is interested in Gun Safety, there is a good chance they own a firearm. This is the key to success, Ryan Deiss-style.
Gun owners love gear...tactical vests, laser sights, night vision googles, scopes and optics, carrying/travel cases, etc. Buy a copy of Guns and Ammo and see who advertises in there. Pay attention to the cheap ads in the back, because that is where you are going to find infoproducts, potential JV partners, potential contributors, etc...
Then ask yourself "If someone owns a gun, why do they own it?"
How about Hunting (enormous market and endless $, with expensive trips and exclusive clubs).
There's also Home Protection (another enormous market with endless $, including things like alarms and cameras, safe rooms, etc...).
Someone may also be into Sport Shooting (plenty of high-priced seminar ideas in there).
Think also about people who want Alternative Home Protection, since we are focusing on gun safety (tons of info-product potential here)

I'm tempted to scoop up one of those domains and get cracking. Ryan Deiss' Digital Marketer has an excellent series of articles about how they launched a blog in a niche they knew nothing about and turned it into a $1 Million/month USD revenue stream. Stuart did a killer case study here at http://nichehacks.com/survival-life-1-million/

The point is, 'Gun Safety' is a way into the perpetual gold mine that is 'Guns'
