Filed in Niche Market Ideas by on April 27, 2014

Solar Power: Hot NicheEvery week I 'hack' open a hot niche. And this weeks niche is VERY hot.

I'll tell you why it's profitable, what you can do to dominate and how you can get started.

This week's niche is in the green energy sector focusing on solar power.

Green power is BIG business. Not only for enviromentalists but for people who just want to save some money on their over priced utility bills.

One of the big new trends is solar panels.

According to GTM Research they install a solar panel system every 4 minutes in the US compared to every 80 minutes in 2006 – so this is growing fast!

People want cheap and DIY solar projects for their homes and you're going to be the one to give it to them – whilst reaping in the profits of course!

Home owners have them attached to the roofs of the their houses or set up in their yards and can generate their own power and save money and in order to save money they are willing to spend it first.

I mentioned solar panels in an earlier post as being a profitable niche and now I'm going to tell you a bit more about this growing market.

Lets Look At The Demand

Look at the huge search volumes on Google for this niche...

Solar Power Keywords

Reasons to get involved in this profitable niche

It's a mix of passionate environmentalists (passionate people spend money!) and people who are fed up of being ripped off by utility companies and are desperate for a solution (desperate people will pay for a solution).

Over 63,000 products available on Amazon and over 20 on Clickbank so lots of products to be sold.

Solar panels cost on average over $200 per panel and most homes need multiple panels.

The average product on Amazon has over 100 reviews which means thousands are sold every week.

Are you beginning to see how profitable the solar panel niche is?

Most products on CB cost over $30 and pay 75% commission so big commission payouts for you.

Google shows there to be over 20 dedicated solar power forums with over 100,000 members, which means a passionate and easy to reach audience.

Technorati lists 650+ blogs on the subject which makes it a popular topic where you can easily find content ideas and network.

On Facebook alone the top 3 pages have over 200,000 likes meaning people LOVE this niche and want to spend money in it.

How You Can Hack Your Way Into This Niche

This is a pretty easy niche to 'hack' into due to the number of forums, blogs and social media groups and the lack of real competition from a smart marketer like yourself.

The best plan of attack is a solar power authority blog following the advice here.

It's easy to find your target audience online and work out what their problems are.

With the sheer volume of products available on Amazon and Clickbank there's a lot to sell to them and we know they buy due to the amount of reviews on the Amazon products.

The high price tags of solar panels and kits make it a profitable niche and the repeat sales opportunities are huge as you can continually sell them more panels, money saving kits and other green energy equipment.

  6. Shalu Sharma says:

This looks like a great niche to break into. But I am not a great enthusiast of solar power. How passionate do I need to be to try this niche.

    • NicheHacks says:

Hey Shalu, thanks for commenting. Being passionate about a topic certainly helps a lot IME but it's not 100% necessary. If you're approaching this as a business decision rather than a hobby then there's no need at all to care about the topic at hand HOWEVER that depends on your dedication to it...can you continue to work on something you have no interest in?

  7. Newww says:

I'm new and I can't find any info about how to make actual money from it - is it about applying to CPA network and promoting their niche-related offers? Or it's something else?

  8. Paul says:

    solarpanelstoday.com Auction
    Current bid $15,000.00

It seems there is a lot of competition!

    • NicheHacks says:

Where is it on sale Paul?

That to me tells me this is a GREAT niche to get into if someone is gonna buy a site in the niche for $15,000.

      • Paul says:

Only the domain! On godaddy.com 🙂
A lot of money in this niche indeed, but a very tough to rank also according to moz.com keyword difficulty.

        • KEN says:

I agree, pretty much all the keyword have high competition, I have to pass on that one.

          • NicheHacks says:

You're looking at it from a very narrow view point Ken. I don't even consider how tough keywords are to rank in Google when choosing a niche. That only matters if you only plan to get traffic from Google and that's not sensible neither is it a business model, that's a hope and prayer.

When you rely on G traffic you're only one algorithm update away from being out of business - why would someone run their business like this?

        • NicheHacks says:

Hi Paul, but why are you focusing on SEO? There are hundreds of ways to get traffic and all of them are more reliable than G traffic which can be taken away from you at any time...if you ever rank at all that is.

Relying on G traffic isn't a sustainable business model.

          • Paul says:

I was thinking only at SEO indeed, I am a SEO guy so it`s tough for me to think of alternative traffic methods like adwords or fb ads.

Do you refer at traffic from forums, blog commenting of different other groups(like fb groups or yahoo groups, yahoo answer)?

I have a website in a interesting niche that recently was the victim of a black hat attack and I am interested in how to attract traffic in other ways then google.

Until now I had tried with facebook groups, but I attract only 100+ visitors by day with one hour constant work(share in specialized groups plus discussion so to appear less spammy).

  9. NicheHacks says:

I do all sorts of traffic generation - blog commenting, guest posting, content syndication and sharing, reddit, social media, networking with authorities to get them to link / share my stuff, video, forum marketing etc etc etc.

Exactly the reason why I don't focus on SEO only is because it's so easy for all your efforts to be destroyed due to negative SEO or Google changing algorithms - not worth it for me. Been burnt before that way. Out of business over night because of it.

Build up multiple sources of sustainable traffic to every site.

By the way Google is the number 1 source of traffic to this blog without me building any links, searching out low volume keywords or even doing much on page SEO.

I just knock out top notch content that picks up long tail keyword search traffic, get natural links from other bloggers by creating great content and linking out / sharing / networking with them and get a ton of social shares and a lot of my pages naturally rank.

  10. Tyler says:

Yeah i haven't totally researched it but I hear about it sooo much, you predicted it long ago haha

    • NicheHacks says:

Yeah it's huge in the UK right now. Lots of houses with panels attached to the roof of the houses.

  11. Paula says:

I'm curious about the percentage of your list who purchase these niche packages.

Also, how is that these packages can be sold so cheaply?

Most of the packages states that ... since the material is PLR, then there are limited quantities. How limited? How many are typically available?

    Thank you.

    • NicheHacks says:

      Hey Paula,

      Thanks for your comment.

I don't have the figures to hand on how many people have purchased niche packages which I recommend. Keep in mind I don't own these packages I#m simply recommending them as I've usually bought them muself or other niche packs from that vendor.

Some are limited to 100 copies and others more. Again it's not easy for me to know that as I'm not the product vendor and they don't always clearly state that.

I hope that answers your questions as best I can.

  12. Marco says:

Regarding traffic... what about paid traffic?
The idea of niches is interesting, but I can die using the free traffic methods (even not considering SEO). Are you using paid traffic for your niche sites?
I mean Facebook Ads, banners and Adwords.
    What is your experience?

    • NicheHacks says:

      Hey Marco,

I have done minimal paid traffic before on FB Ads but I'm not an expert. I will be looking into doing banner ads and FB again soon for the blog. But I have little experience to offer so far.

  13. Yudi says:

    Hi Stuart

Just need to ask if this material is updated for the current year.
As when i went to Eleanor's blog, it seems the blog is not being updated since 2012.

    Thank You!!!

    • NicheHacks says:

Hey Yudi, not sure about her blog but this one hasn't been updated since it's been launched as far as I know and I doubt it will be. It's a one time purchase with no updates.
