Learn more about high ticket affiliate marketing and how to make more money online. Here are our top picks for the highest paying affiliate programs.

Affiliate marketing is a legitimate way to make money online.

You promote products on your site and earn a commission for each sale you refer. No need to stock products or interact with any customers.

And nothing is more satisfying than earning that first dollar online.

You put in a ton of effort to build a site and promote a product. Seeing that first sale is a major milestone as it shows that your efforts are working.

Now, you won’t be able to quit your job just yet. But it does mean that you’re one step closer to making a full-time income online.

If you know what you’re doing, you can earn enough to replace your current income.

For instance, Bill and Kayla built The Wandering RV into a six-figure business in just under two years:

This is just one example.

There are tons of other people making a good income from affiliate marketing.

If you want to REALLY take your income to the next level, high ticket affiliate marketing can help get you there even faster.

In this comprehensive resource, we'll give you everything you need to do it.

What is High Ticket Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is more lucrative than ever.

Affiliate marketing spending is projected to reach $8.2 billion by 2022, up from $1.6 billion in 2010 — that’s a 412% increase!

The good news?

Those figures show no signs of slowing down.

You’re likely already familiar with affiliate marketing — the process of earning a commission on products or services you refer.

You may have even dabbled in it yourself to make money online.

But getting checks like this can be disheartening:

You spend all this time creating a comprehensive resource for your site just to earn a measly commission.

Don’t give up just yet. Because there are affiliates who are earning hundreds, even thousands of dollars on a single high ticket item.

With high ticket affiliate programs.

High ticket affiliate marketing is the process of promoting high-value items. These can be anything from personal coaches to travel packages and jewelry.

Promoting a high ticket affiliate program means you can earn huge one-off commissions.

Some programs even pay healthy recurring commissions, so you can generate residual commissions for as long as the person you refer remains a customer.

Here’s why high ticket affiliate marketing is worth a closer look:

The Amazon Associates Program is by far one of the most popular affiliate programs. Affiliates can sign up to the program and choose from millions of products to promote.

Here’s the commission structure:

Let’s say you refer someone who buys a $300 tablet. At a 4% commission rate, you would earn $12 — just enough to treat yourself to a decent lunch.

If your earnings goal is to make six figures as an affiliate marketer, you would need to do a whopping $2.5 million in sales. That comes out to over 8,000 tablets!

Here’s the real kicker:

These types of purchases are generally one-off commissions. You would have to continue selling over 8,000 tablets a year to make six figures with affiliate marketing.

In contrast, some high ticket affiliate programs pay out as much as $1,000 to their affiliates. That means you would only need to sell 100 of those products to make six figures.

So which would you rather promote?

The affiliate program that pays $1,000.

Here’s something that most people don’t realize:

It takes the same amount of time and effort to promote high ticket products as “low ticket” products.

You’re still doing the work of building a site, publishing content, and driving traffic to it through SEO or other marketing channels. The major difference is your earnings potential.

Now, let’s look at some of the top paying affiliate programs.

You know the what of high ticket affiliate marketing.

Let’s turn our attention to the how

More specifically, let’s look at how you can get started with high ticket affiliate marketing.

How to Get Started With High Ticket Affiliate Marketing

The beauty about high ticket affiliate marketing is it works just like affiliate marketing.

I’m going to assume you’ve already found a niche. If you haven’t, you’ll find some great advice on our ultimate guide to finding a niche.

Here’s an overview on getting started with top paying affiliate programs:

#1: Measure Your Niche’s Profitability

Don’t be fooled by commissions that some high ticket affiliate programs offer.

A $1,000 commission from a high paying affiliate program may sound great on the surface. But those sales may be far and between if there are barely any customers.

In fact, it’s possible you may earn more selling those $300 tablets from our earlier example simply because the market for them is larger.

That’s why you need to research the niche before you dive deeper. Here are a few simple methods of checking how profitable a potential niche is:

Check Search Volume

Use Keyword Planner — a free research tool from Google — to get traffic estimates on your niche’s keywords. Ideally, you want to find a niche where you can target tons of keywords.

Here’s an example for the keywords “yacht rental”:

Search volume is on the lower end for these phrases, but our initial research shows that it may still be worth targeting.

Check Google Ads

The Keyword Planner tool also shows you how much advertisers are paying to display their ads in the search results:

Here we can see the suggested bids for some of these keywords are quite high.

You can also search your target keyword in Google to see if there are any advertisers:

This tells us that the niche is worth pursuing.

If it wasn’t, advertisers wouldn’t be paying that much!

#2: Research Affiliate Programs

Earning high commissions on a single sale may sound awesome. But you also need to do your due diligence.

Because 59% of shoppers use Google for product research:

Search the merchant online.

What are people saying about the product?

If you see glowing reviews about the product, you may have a winner on your hands. But if the product has mostly negative reviews, consider choosing another merchant.

Consumers typically spend thousands of dollars on high ticket items, so you can bet they’ll read reviews first.

You’ll have a much better chance of getting sales on high ticket affiliate programs that have favorable reviews.

#3: Check Key Metrics

Check some key metrics before deciding on a high ticket affiliate program.

What is their cookie duration? Some high ticket items may have a longer sales cycle, which means they take longer to convert.

Choose a program that has at least a 30 day cookie. If a visitor you refer doesn’t purchase right away, you’ll still get credit if they do a few weeks later.

Another metric to pay attention to is reversal rate — the percentage of buyers who purchase, but end up canceling.

ShareASale displays this for each merchant:

A high reversal rate is a huge red flag. Note that finding this information can be difficult as many companies don’t openly disclose their reversal rate.

#4: Build an Authority Site

The days of ranking “thin” content are long gone.

That approach just doesn’t work.

Building authority sites is the way to go to really take your earnings to the next level.

What makes authority sites different?

They don’t just publish one product review after another — they focus on providing value to their audience.

Here’s an example of how these are structured:

These sites take more effort to build. But you’ll be building a valuable asset that has more organic reach than the typical review site.

Finally, don’t forget to add your affiliate links.

Some programs even have materials like banners for high ticket affiliate products you can use on your site. If you’re writing up a product review, make it easy for your visitors to click through to the merchant’s site.

Here’s an example of how eachnight promotes mattresses it recommends:

By now you should have a fully built site.

But don’t just expect traffic to start flooding in.

You have to promote your site.

You’re likely already familiar with different marketing channels, but let’s dive deeper into the methodology.

Customer Acquisition Funnels For High Ticket Affiliate Programs

You don’t really think twice about small purchases.

If it’s a hot day and you see an ice cream stand, you’ll probably make your way over and eagerly pull your wallet out.

But purchases for high ticket items are different.

Imagine you have a small business that’s been steadily growing, but you’re struggling with managing your customer data.

You know that CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software can help, but you don’t know what your options are.

So you search online and come across a few options that offer powerful features. You likely won’t buy right away though — you’re still doing research. You’re making a long-term investment, so you don’t want to be too hasty.

You read a few reviews to learn more about each company. Then as you browse the web, you see an ad with an enticing offer. That was exactly what you needed to sign up.

What I just described is the sales funnel in action.

Here are the steps that prospects go through before they become a customer:

Why am I showing you this?

Because top paying affiliate programs with an effective sales funnel do a much better at nurturing and converting a lead.

Analyzing how a company does customer acquisition can also help you improve your own sales funnel.

Let’s look at each stage in more detail:

#1: Awareness

The awareness stage is when a prospect becomes aware of a product or service — either through an online search, a tweet, or from a friend.

One of the best ways to drive awareness is with SEO or search engine optimization. More than half of shoppers say they use Google to discover a new brand.

Let’s look at an example:

Shopify understands that its target audience wants to sell products online. So they created and optimized a category page around the phrase “how to sell online”, which ranks at the top of Google.

Potential customers become aware of Shopify when they click through.

Ranking in the search results means that you can increase your organic search traffic and direct them to merchants like Shopify.

But you need to rank in the top positions. Because the first spot generates a click-through rate of 32%, while pages on the bottom barely get noticed:

Here’s how to improve the SEO of your site:

  • Optimize on-page factors like title tags, headers, and content

  • Include your target keywords, but don’t spam

  • Use multimedia like images to increase engagement

  • Improve site speed

  • Make your site mobile-friendly

Backlinks are a key ranking signal. Sites that rank in the first position have more backlinks on average.

Companies can also raise awareness by advertising on Google and Facebook Ads. Here’s an example of some ads from HubSpot:

Advertising on these channels can help you raise awareness for different merchants on your affiliate site.

Another way to generate awareness is with inbound marketing — a strategy that involves creating engaging content to attract visitors.

As you conduct keyword research, you can produce authoritative content and turn them into different formats like videos and infographics to increase traffic.

#2: Interest

The interest stage is when your prospects are interested enough to research your products or services further.

They’re not yet on the verge of converting, but they’re getting closer. This is the stage where companies go the extra mile to woo their prospects.

Shopify offers a good example of getting prospects interested in their services. Visitors can sign up for a free 14-day trial just by entering their email address:

Here’s the first email they send out to trial users:

Shopify doesn’t stop there though.

They continue generating interest with an email sequence:

Look through the subject lines.

Notice anything?

They don’t push for sales. In fact, they provide resources to help users get their store off the ground.

Providing valuable content is key in the interest stage. It helps a company build credibility with its audience.

One way to generate interest on your affiliate site is with a lead gen magnet — an incentive that you offer to visitors in exchange for their email address. Examples can include offering downloadable content like a free report or a guide.

Here’s an example of a lead gen magnet that teachable offers:

If you have a personal finance site, you could offer a guide on improving credit scores to build an email list. Then you can create a sequence to slowly generate interest for the merchant you’re promoting.

#3: Decision

The decision stage is when prospects are ready to buy. They’re right on the cusp of converting, but they still need some convincing.

One way that companies help prospects make a decision is with retargeting.

Here’s an overview of how it works:

Retargeting works because it allows companies to reach prospects who have already expressed interest in their products or services.

Here’s an example of a Facebook retargeting ad from HubSpot:

HubSpot knew that some prospects didn’t convert yet because they’re worried about the lengthy process of setting up a CRM. This ad directly addressed those concerns and even showed exactly how long it took to install.

By setting up a remarketing audience on Facebook or Google, you can create a secondary conversion opportunity and drive more affiliate sales.

#4: Action

The action stage is when the prospect finally converts. All that hard work has finally paid off and you’re rewarded with a commission. Nice!

Closing a sale isn’t always easy, especially for high ticket items that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

One way that companies get prospects to take action is by utilizing clear CTA buttons on their landing pages.

Here’s an example from WP Engine:

The CTA button on the page is immediately noticeable. It utilizes a different color, so it attracts attention.

Using psychological triggers like creating a sense of urgency on your CTA button copy can get more of your visitors to take action.

By spending time learning about how a company’s audience speaks about their product through surveys and social media, you can use that language to resonate with your audience’s needs.

Understanding each stage of the customer acquisition funnel can help you improve your own marketing efforts.

Tired of earning measly commissions?

Then you’ll want to focus on high ticket affiliate marketing programs. By promoting these merchants, you can potentially earn hundreds or thousands of dollars on a single sale.

But don’t get too excited just yet. There are a lot of steps involved before you can really start earning enough to quit your day job.

High Ticket Affiliate Marketing FAQs

Don’t have time to read everything right now?

Here are some frequently asked questions about high ticket affiliate marketing and affiliate marketing in general:

What is high ticket affiliate marketing?

High ticket affiliate marketing is the process of promoting high ticket items, which can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Examples can include fitness products, travel packages, marketing software, and more. Promoting high value items can earn you hefty one-off and recurring commissions as an affiliate.

How do I sign up to be an affiliate?

Many companies require affiliates to apply to their affiliate program. Be sure to completely fill out an application form to increase your chances of getting accepted. You’ll typically receive a response in a few days. Alternatively, you can also sign up for an affiliate network like CJ Affiliate or ShareASale and apply to affiliate programs there.

How can I promote a high ticket affiliate program?

Affiliate programs provide affiliates with their own unique tracking URL as well marketing materials like graphics and banner ads. You can promote high ticket affiliate programs on your site and drive traffic to your pages via paid search, social media, etc.

Do I need a website?

Not necessarily. Once you get accepted to an affiliate program, you can promote a merchant to your email list or by advertising on social networks like Facebook. However, you may face some limitations. For example, you need to have a website to advertise with Google Ads and some affiliate programs won’t accept your application unless you have one.

What are affiliate networks?

Affiliate networks essentially act as a middleman — they connect merchants and affiliates. They give you access to hundreds of merchants you can promote. Some of the most popular networks include CJ Affiliate, ShareASale, ClickBank, FlexOffers, and Pepperjam.

How much can I earn as an affiliate?

It depends. We’ve looked at “super” affiliate sites that earn millions of dollars on affiliate commissions alone. Earning that much is certainly possible, but it also requires a substantial investment to reach those kinds of earnings.

How do affiliate marketers get paid?

Affiliate networks like CJ Affiliate and ShareASale pay via direct deposit, check, or Payoneer. Other programs pay via PayPal. Note that you may need to earn a minimum threshold before you can get paid. Be sure to carefully read the payment terms before you apply to an affiliate program.

What are commission rates?

Commission rates can either be a fixed payment or a percentage of a sale. For example, some affiliate programs offer one-off commissions like a flat $100, while others offer a percentage of the total sale. Going with a percentage means you can potentially earn more depending on how much the customer you refer to spends.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small files that are stored in a users’ browser. When a visitor clicks on your affiliate link, a cookie gets placed on their computer and you get credited with the sale if they convert. However, many affiliate programs have limited cookie durations — the amount of time a cookie remains active. Ideally, you should look for affiliate programs that have at least a 30-day cookie.

Pretty clear that you have no idea what a high ticket affiliate program is. These are all nickel and dime programs. Might want to hire a marketing coach.

Such a thorough article! I especially jotted down some notes on where to go for affiliate marketing products, besides Amazon. I do agree, promoting high ticket items, though you may not get as many sales, your overall profit would be higher.
