What Can You Learn from These Sites

Phew! That was a long list and it took me hours to put together.

There's a lot you can learn from these sites and how they're making money in unknown niches.

1. There's a LOT of Money Outside the Make Money Online Niche

There's not a single site in this list that tells you how to make money online despite the common belief by struggling marketers that the only way to make money online is to sell make money online advice!

And all of them are not only making good money but also sold for high five figures.

Clearly, there's a fortune to be made outside the MMO niche if you're willing to put in the work and find unconventional niches with a passionate following.

It just requires you to treat whatever your idea is like a real business. Just because it's an online business doesn't mean you can treat it like a side hustle or hobby if you want to make life changing income.

2. You Need to Solve Problems to Make Money

Nobody will give you their hard earned money just because you want it. Nobody cares about your troubles, your financial situation or your increasing debt.

People only care about themselves and if you want to make money you need to help them solve their problems.

Find a need, a problem or a hobby people are passionate about and create content or provide products/services that fulfil those needs.

Treat your online money making idea like a real online business opportunity.

That is what every site on this list has done.

And if you're thinking "well sending cat facts to people isn't solving a problem" you'd be half right but here's the thing; it's providing entertainment and that solves the problem of curing boredom.

3. There's No Substitute for High-Quality Content

Sites with lots of high-quality content sold for significantly higher amounts as compared to thin or one-page niche sites.

It’s understandable because content creation and management is a tedious and resource intensive process.

On the other hand, there are a couple of sites on this list that have hundreds of articles but only sold for a modest amount because their content was really poor in quality, provided little value and had lots of grammatical mistakes.

They only found buyers because of the ages of their sites and the number of posts published on them.

Again, think of this as a long term online business opportunity and not a quick money maker and put the effort in and should you ever decide to sell your site down the line you'll be able to sell for a higher price.

4. You Need to Build an Email List

This list once again proves the importance of building an email subscriber base for your online business.

Every real business has a customer list and your online business needs an email list as it's an asset which you can own, control and tap into for traffic and sales on demand.

There are several sites on this list that generate more than 50% of their traffic from their email subscribers.

They’re not dependent entirely on search engine traffic.

This is an important lesson since there’s a common myth among newbies that email marketing is dead.

5. Facebook Groups are Traffic Goldmines for Niche Sites

Many sites on this list are generating the majority of their traffic from Facebook Groups.

A Facebook group allows you to bring together like-minded individuals on a single platform and interact with each other like we’ve done in NicheHacks Facebook Mastermind.

This shows that community building around your brand is an important part of affiliate marketing.

6. Niche Marketing is NOT an Overnight Success Formula

Most of the sites on this list that made money with Amazon Associates or Google AdSense are at least 1 year old (most are older).

It’s a good indication of the time it takes to set up and establish a blog from scratch in a new niche.

When you start a new site, you need to be patient and allow yourself time to succeed.

Take a long term approach and treat your website like a business and not a "side hustle" and you'll be rewarded.

7. There Are Multiple Ways to Monetize Your Niche Site

Most people assume that affiliate marketing and advertising are the only two ways niche sites can make money.

This is wrong.

Once you identify a need and find a niche that has a passionate following youc an monetize your site in multiple ways.

For example, dropshipping is one of the best ways to monetize your site in a new niche.

It doesn’t require any inventory and you can quickly set up a fully automated dropshipping business on Shopify and fulfill them from AliExpress. The whole process can be automated using Oberlo, an app for Shopify stores.

Similarly, if you understand the needs of your niche, creating and selling your own digital products is another very profitable way of making money.

All the sites on this list selling digital products have the highest profit margins because they have no overhead costs that are involved in physical businesses.

So always consider if your internet business idea has a range of digital products you can sell over just physical products which can be lucrative but also offer lower commission payouts.

8. Diversify Your Traffic Sources

You don’t need search engine traffic when you can invest $1 in Facebook Ads and generate $3 of sales.

This is what all the successful dropshipping and eCommerce niche sites on this list are doing.

And even many of the sites that make money with Amazon Associates or Google AdSense drive a lot of their traffic from their email lists and Facebook Groups.

If you have one income source or one traffic source you don't have a real online business. Make sure your internet business idea is one that can be diversified and future-proofed.

9. Turn Your Niche Site Into a Memorable Brand And Genuine Business

I was surprised to see the number of sites on this list that are driving most of their traffic from direct and referral sources.

Direct traffic means people are visiting the site directly by entering its URL which reflects loyalty.

Branding has a lot to do with building loyalty. Niche sites with strong branding stay longer in people's minds and increase the number of returning visitors.

Almost all the sites on this list have most of the basic brand elements in place. Most of them are well-designed sites with a logo, a responsive WordPress theme, and proper presentation.

Just shows that you can’t ignore these things in niche marketing and should always look to build a legitimate online business venture.

Have You Found Your Online Business Idea Now?

There are lucrative and profitable niches and business models all around you.

If people can make money and start internet businesses in all the weird niches I’ve shared, why can’t you do the same on a topic you know about?

You just need to identify a problem that needs to be solved or a hobby people are passionate about. This is the core objective of all businesses offline or offline.

Excellent article! The traffic volume & the monthly profit which you mentioned is of three months or of per month?

  2. Alex says:

Awesome article. It is really good to see some sites are even 10+ years old.

  3. Karan says:

    Hello,

Just saw the email in my inbox and this list includes a niche that I have been thinking about and that is electric scooters where I was planning on products (affiliate) like hoverboard, electric scooter, mobility scooters but I am totally confused between two niches, one is the electric scooters and the other is men's grooming.

I right now only want to start with one niche as starting 2 would divide my focus and I won't be able to perform good in any of them.

Can you clear this confusion? Which niche you think I should pick? I know it's kind of strange question but what niche you would pick out of these two? I am asking this questions on base of easiness and profitability as it's always good to go in a niche which has competition but not too much and both these niches are of my interest.

Looking forward to hear your reply. Hope this confusion gets cleared once you reply.

    Cheers,
    Karan

    • NicheHacks says:

No one can tell you what is the right niche for you. Only you can decide that.

There's no such thing as "easy niches".

If that was the case everyone would market in those niches and they would no longer be so easy, right?

Whatever niche you pick you have to learn the same new skills and implement the same marketing strategies, so that's not going to change whether you pick scooters or men's grooming or anything else.

You'll still have to learn the same things and do the same activities.

So pick whichever one interests you most, that you believe you can make the most difference in or you've evaluated to be the most lucrative. You'll have to do the research to find that out.

The research process has been laid out in step by step detail here:

    Great information, thank you!

  5. The Resume niche is surprising, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I've grown "allergic" to writing any more resumes (which is why I'm here! LOL!). Thus, I assumed most people would have abandoned resumes by now, but those sites proved me wrong.

Thank you for this article. This has given me some great ideas for some domain names I've almost decided to let go of. Now, maybe I'm thinking I can just build them up with simple niche sites, get them profitable, and flip them.

    • NicheHacks says:

The getting them profitable is the most time consuming part, don't underestimate how long that can take. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do, maybe a site on resume (if you've written enough of them) is a good choice for you.

  6. Jubi says:

This in depth overview sure is an eye opener on how far one can go when you use a little bit of imagination. I'm now a big fan of Flippa. Never knew such a site existed until few months ago, thanks to Dan Brock "Deadbeat" affiliate guru.
    It sure is a goldmine.
Thanks Stuart for a great insight.

  7. Randolph Rukevwe Oghwe says:

Thanks for the 45 weird sites idea you sent. I will take my time to identify some problems that need solutions and will get back to you.

However, hope I can as well engaged in a drop shipping business in US from Nigeria by using the Shopify app?

My location shouldn't be a problem, right?

    Thanks so much
    Regards

    • NicheHacks says:

The internet is a true leveller. It doesn't matter where you are, if you have internet access and the desire to succeed you can. You may run into some limitations being from Nigeria such as no Paypal etc but there's always ways around these things for those who really want to make it happen.

  8. Obinna says:

Great info. Never ever thought of these weird niches. An eye opener.

    Thanks

  9. I personally love #2 on the list. Not just because of my unhealthy love of cats, but because the idea is so simple in nature. It's a reminder that a business doesn't necessarily have to break new ground or reinvent the wheel; just relate to a habit that already exists, especially if said habit is often overlooked (cat facts, in this case).

Reminds me of a guy that would draw a crappy cat picture for about $10 a few years ago (Iwanttodrawacatforyou). Guess what? the business exploded due to how absurd (albeit unique) it was.

    • NicheHacks says:

Hey Elvis, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you. Simple and quite weird really yet it makes money without even "selling" anything. It's a great example of the weird stuff people spend money online.

  10. Nouha says:

I am a Moroccan student who live in Morocco , and I want to jump into the home security niche as an affiliate , However I don't know if it's allowed for people from my country to jump into this .. If it's not the case , do I STILL HAVE A CHANCE WITH AFFILIATE MARKETING ? and what will be My options ?

    Thanks in advance !

Hope to hear from you guys soon !
    😀

    • NicheHacks says:

Hey Nouha, welcome. Glad you like the blog.

Yes you can enter the home security, or any other, niche from Morocco. The internet is global and anyone can take part and market to any part of the world.

The only limitations are the ones you place on yourself.
