What Is an Amazon Affiliate Site?
Now you may think that an Amazon affiliate-based site has to be something based on one or a few products right?
Wrong.
A site monetized by Amazon’s affiliate program has the sole purpose of sending as much traffic as possible to Amazon.
Now that site may be using other forms of monetization like Adsense or maybe their own products.
That being said, the site may cater to a very narrowly defined audience, or as we call it, a niche.
Now you may be thinking there’s already competition in every niche, why bother?
Well if there’s competition, that means there’s always room to grow.
Competition is a good thing since you can connect with them and ‘steal’ traffic by doing them favors and building relationships.
You’ll find that there’s always one way or another to stand out from the competition, whether it’s through better content, digging into a sub-niche, finding a unique angle, or simply finding a way to be unique.
Or you could focus on everything mentioned above and go beyond what your readers expect.

There seems to be a dilemma when it comes to deciding between the two business models.
You may not even believe there’s a difference between the two and really, you shouldn’t spend too much time deciding which one to go with.
Just take a look at Authority Hacker’s quick definition of a authority site:
“Authority sites = large, content-driven sites with multiple traffic channels and revenue streams. Importantly, they can be built without selling any physical product. In fact, the way we like to build them, authority sites are blog-style sites in which the main commodity is information.”
Gaël Breton of AuthorityHacker.com
Niche sites are traditionally made to offer one solution (like an affiliate offer) but an authority site tends to be more brandable with more opportunities for content and solutions.
You should always go for a niche, be as focused as possible but not too narrow so you’re able to constantly create content and channels for monetization.

Picking a Domain Name
You’ll never want to pick a domain that is so specific that you cannot expand on it later.
No one wants to become a loyal reader of a site named “fitnessforsinglemenover40.com”.
It just doesn’t look brandable nor trustworthy.
You want something short, easy to remember, and goes with your vision.
It may help to have a keyword or two in your domain name but it will not break or make your SEO rankings.

Some mention that cost anywhere from a few bucks a month and up.
We aren’t an expert on hosting services but we believe that if you’re going to start a site, invest plenty in a hosting service that offers security and reliability.
You don’t want to work countless hours, days and nights to find your website super slow, or even worse, hacked.
We recommend WP-Engine as that’s the one we’ve been using for years now.

Millions of sites are built on WordPress so you can’t go wrong with that platform…
And most necessary plugins are free, but premium themes are not.

SEO and Keyword Research
Let’s get one thing clear before you take a step further…
You don’t ever rank for a single keyword, it just doesn’t happen.
In fact, one article may rank for hundreds or even thousands of keywords and you’ll get ranked for all of those variations if you do it right.
But if you’re focused on a single keyword, you’ll eventually be writing for the hope of ranking on Google rather than helping out your audience.
So go all out, go beyond your competition and create something bigger and better.
